Hello, I'm Julian. I have been teaching students of all ages and abilities for over 25 years. I initially trained at art schools in Kingston and Norwich in England before specialising in Illustration in London. I worked for many terrific clients during my time as a freelancer; Penguin, British Airways, Channel 4, Harper Collins, Chatto and Windus, and got my first real taste of Italy on the back of winning a travel scholarship to Venice. Since then I have led many week-long trips to Italy, developing over the years an understanding of the Cities and the History of Art in Florence, Rome, Siena, Naples and Venice.

Moving into teaching almost 25 years ago allowed me to develop skills in many other areas and, as such, I am happy for all my students, whatever their level, to pursue and develop their own individual interests during the week. The atmosphere generated in my studio is always relaxed and friendly, whilst also being productive and lively, and you can expect positive encouragement to try new ideas as and when you feel confident to do so.

Teaching art requires energy, patience and an ability to get as much out of each student as possible, and I have always strived to do this, whether teaching life-drawing, photography, design, illustration, or painting and drawing. I am looking forward to this new direction in my career and hope to provide you with an unforgettable experience, one which you will want to repeat.

It’s been an honour throughout the years to meet so many people from around the world and experience through them the excitement of cities, the richness of the Italian countryside, and to learn new ways of seeing alongside them. I can’t wait to meet even more students in the future - whether it be in Italy, in some amazing city around the world, or online."
