The courses - Spring 20094th April to the 11th AprilAn introduction to drawing and watercolour techniques.
This is a course aimed at beginners and intermediate painters.
You can come with an idea of what you might like to improve or you can come simply wanting to have a go, even for the very first time.
Everyone starts somewhere, where better than while tramping through an ancient olive grove in the landscape of Tuscany and Umbria!
During this course we will visit one of the wonderful and historic cities nearby. This could be the magnificent Tuscan city of Florence or Siena with their wealth of Renaissance art or perhaps the quieter, smaller, elegant Umbrian town of Citta della Pieve with its beautiful red-brick facades.
This town is the birth place of Perugino and is home to some of his masterpieces.
18th April to the 25th AprilA Taste of Italian ArtI love to teach History of Art alongside painting and drawing, and this course covers some of the highlights of Italian Art from its beginnings with the Etruscans to the glorious Renaissance.
I will organise visits to some of the ‘jewels’ of this area. Bathed in mellow sunlight, the wooded hills of Tuscany and Umbria are home to some of the most beautiful towns and cities in Italy.
From the glorious Renaissance montage of Siena to the sleepy charm of Chiusi, each can boast a church, cathedral or collection that is worth an extended visit.
There will be plenty of opportunity to draw, paint or photograph where we visit, but you do not need to be an artist to enjoy this course.
You just need to love art!
2nd May to the 9th May
Botanical Illustration for beginnersHave you ever wanted to spend a week drawing and painting the plants and wild flowers of a Tuscan Spring?
There will be guided walks around the natural reserve where we live, visits to well-known local gardens and plenty of painting in the peaceful, friendly studio.
During the course there will be plenty of time for one-to-one tuition and a chance to discuss and evaluate your work as you progress.
16th to the 23rd May
An Art WorkshopThis course is aimed at people who enjoy painting or photography and would also like to experiment with some basic printmaking techniques.
This course is all about ‘having a go’, not being afraid of making mistakes and pursuing any ideas you feel suit you, in any medium you choose.
My job is, simply, to help you achieve your best....
Day trips and Visits
During each course there will be days set aside for visits to the local and surrounding area, giving you a chance to gather research and inspiration for your paintings and photographs.
These visits could include; Siena, Florence, Montepulciano, Cortona, Lago Trasimeno, Citta della Pieve, Chiusi, Castiglione del Lago, Pienza, Perugia, Arezzo, and the stunning Val d'Orcia (the furthest of which is only about an hours drive away)
It won’t be just hard work, though, and there will also be time to relax and soak up the atmosphere as we want you to experience as much of this wonderful country as possible.
We will happily arrange a tasting of the luscious sun-drenched wines of Montepulciano, allow you to indulge in a tour of the many flavours of Pecorino cheese in Pienza (from the dripping and delicate ‘fresco’ to the crumbling pungent ‘stagionato’), and, of course, there is also the lure of the colourful village markets with the savoury highlight being a ‘panino’ from the ‘porchetta’ van.
Group bookings and special courses
If you are a painting or photography group and would like to book a private course for your group, please contact us and we will be happy to discuss all the possibilities. Because I live here and use the studio throughout the year I am able to be very flexible and individual weeks and special interest weeks can be arranged (on request) to cover specific places or techniques.
We will be as flexible as we can be!
